I am supposed to be Cutting Down and Losing Weight. I am supposed to be Reducing My Intake of Refined Carbohydrates, and generally being sensible ahead of the upcoming seasonal festivities. I have recently realised that sugar is in fact my nemesis - some people go for alcohol, some for more socially unacceptable substances but I am here to say, "Hello, my name is Val and I am a sugar addict."
So did it really make sense to go on a cupcake decorating course today? Probably not, but it was a lot of fun. We played with sugar paste and lustre and glitter and sugar pearls. I learned to make complicated multipetalled sugar roses (though I think I shall stick to making them in polymer clay).

Even with all the complicated techniques, I think I prefer very simple rolled rosebuds and a bit of glitter.

And actually, the fewer, the better.

I'm with you - somehow incredibly complicated cupcakes just smack a teeny bit of trying too hard.
ReplyDeleteYours are lovely - the lustre photographs very well!
your cupcakes look amazing! I love simple cakes, like you less is more.
ReplyDeleteOh very very gorgeous Missus DC. As for your 'problem' do you think there is a 12 step programme? And do you think they might have a chapter down my way?
ReplyDeleteOh my, clever you, they are fully fabulous and I'm with you, less is more on the decor front, if only I could get my 8 year old to agree.
ReplyDeletemmmmm they look delicious!

I absolutely agree. That last cake is quite beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThey look great!! x
ReplyDeleteOoh, so pretty!! And sugar is not my friend, either. For someone with really good blood-test results (no diabetes or even pre-diabetes), I still have an awful lot of yucky symptoms after indulging. This is one aspect of growing older that I am NOT impressed with. Well, that and the chin hairs...
ReplyDeleteoh dear I think I might be a sugar addict too.... love those shiny cakes! x
ReplyDeleteOh, they are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI hate my metabolism. Just sayin'
You know - what Lynn said - exactly.
ReplyDeleteI am going on a sugar free diet in the New Year but starting to scale down now.
Too much bloating etc from the sweet poison and I have had enough.
They look gorgeous. And for all us other sugar addicts far better to just have the visual feast ;-) Jo
ReplyDeleteThey look lovely, the rosebuds are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous creations, well done. Like you, I do love to play with polymer clay more though as at least you can keep the final product :-)
ReplyDeleteThey look delicious and very calorific!!! I've just had an incredibly naughty week as far as the wretched diet is concerned but still managed to lose a pound. Now I've GOT to be super strict and stick to the plan or it is all going to start piling back on and I'm nearly at the 2.5 stone mark. Lucy x
ReplyDeleteGoodness, that first paragraph could have been written about me - I am definitely a sugar addict and my "weight loss plan" is going precisely nowhere! Lovely cupcakes though (now you've made me want to go and make some... oh dear, perhaps I should just give up and try again after Christmas!)
ReplyDeleteR x
Sugar addict? Me too....:-( Beautiful cakes though!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the diet, I'm sure that you'll do well if you keep approaching it with humour and patience.
Wow Val they look amazing, almost too good to eat! Good luck with cutting back on the evils of sugar - very hard this time of year!
ReplyDeleteLove those cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteWe all need a little sweetness and beauty in our lives, these do both, how very clever.
ReplyDeleteAha! So, that is my ailment! I've never been much for alcohol or coffee or anything else -- but SUGAR? Oh Yes! Maybe we should start a Sugarholics Anonymous? Although, I don't know about you, but I'm not really sure I want to be cured -- it's sooooooo good! Pretty, Pretty Cupcakes -- lucky for me, they're only a picture!
ReplyDeleteI could just eat that bottom cake right now!
