But what are you going to do all day?

When I gave up work, I was asked repeatedly (and in some cases incredulously) how I was going to fill my time. I am sure there were people who thought I'd be watching Phil 'n' Fern and eating bonbons on the sofa. If only! Tall and Tiny Small keep me very occupied - yesterday Tall told her ex-childminder, "Sam, I do miss coming to your house a bit." (More like she misses Horrid Henry, methinks). "But isn't it nice having mummy at home now?" "Yes, and we're giving her a nice rest from work." Ha!!!

Of course, you are all far too sensible to think I'm busy doing nothing, and I'm sure you'll understand why Tiny Small and I chose to fill a sunny afternoon this week with some soap felting action, courtesy of the Little Travelers via Crafty Crow.

She managed most of this by herself, once I'd assembled a little soap-roving-muslin parcel, and she rubbed and rubbed till she had neat little bars of soap each encased in their own colourful felty flannel. They are lovely in the bath, and it means we don't end up with disintegrating soggy soap blobs anymore. See? Useful! I'm thinking Christmas presents ...

  1. It's great to hear you are enjoying your break from work and making the most of your time with your lovely girls :)

Your felted soaps are lovely. I have some pebbles that I want to felt - maybe I'll ask my smalls to help me with them.

  2. We made felted purses last year. Watching their faces as it turned from roving to fabric was tremendous.

Also, this week I'd love to be back at home full time. It's just been to sunny to be indoors.

  7. They are lovely felty soaps - and yes, would make fabulous Crimble presents.

Surely only those without children could possibly ask what you'd be doing with yourself all day?! x

  10. What a fabulous idea to felt soap - gorgeous and practical! An ideal activity for a "lady of leisure"... only joking! I spent 15 years not "working" so I know how busy you are!

  11. What a great project idea! I love felting -- both the wet kind and the needly kind -- but haven't tried this before. Definitely a great Christmas gift.

  12. Oh, I like those felted soaps!

I remember the days before kids when I had free time. It's not so much that I am busy now, it's more that I have two agents whose sole mission seems to be to hinder my every attempt to finish a task...

  17. I'm with Lesley! I get so annoyed when people think that I sit around all day watching TV!! Being a parent to 2 little ones is the hardest job I've ever done!
Great craft activity. It's something that I'm going to save to do with the girls when my mother comes to visit. Thankd for the idea.
